RIDING TO ANSWER THE CALL.
As the date for this years' B.A.D.RIDE (Bikers Against Despair) quickly approaches, I wanted to contact you all and ask for your support toward this charity event which is very important to me.
Along with 8 of our long-time motorcycle-enthusiast friends, we co-founded the B.A.D.RIDE in 1997 and held the first B.A.D.RIDE in May of 1998. From the $35,000 we raised in that first year, we were committed to growing the event and establishing it as not only a day for motorcycles, but for the community as a whole to join in with the bikers to be “B.A.D. for a day.” Last year the B.A.D.RIDE raised over $200,000 in support of Distress Centres. The event has turned into the largest one-day motorcycle charity event in Canada, of which we are very proud.
Distress Centres provides a round-the-clock emotional safety net for community members who are socially marginalized, distressed, in crisis, victims of violence or suicidal. Last year, more than 150,000 calls were answered by volunteers on their hotlines. And directly through your support, Distress Centres has been able to acquire a 151-language interpreter service as well as TTY lines for the hearing impaired and much more. We are proud to be able to say that 100% of the over $3-million raised by riders on the 19 previous B.A.D.RIDE's has gone directly to Distress Centres supporting ongoing programming. The costs to produce the event are generously covered by corporate sponsorship.
And B.A.D. Ride 20 looks to be the ‘B.A.D.est’ ever. This year the ride route will leave from Dave & Buster’s at Hwys. 400 & 7 and will terminate at the Markham Fairgrounds, where a $20,000 2017 Harley Davidson ‘FXSB' motorcycle will be given away to one lucky fundraiser. I ask you for your support towards this worthy cause. And again this year, the company that I work for has generously pledged to match all of your donations dollar-for-dollar! Your pledge can be made by cash or cheque, or online via all major credit cards. You will receive a tax receipt for all donations, and any amount will be graciously accepted.
We need your support to keep the telephone lines open and available to those in need!
For anyone who wishes to contribute by cash or cheque, please let me know and we would be more than happy to pick up your contribution and thank you in person. And yes, all donations made in my name will be matched in full by my employer. Please make cheques payable to Distress Centres. For further information, please visit my donations page at:
Thank you so much in advance for your support and for being “B.A.D. for a day.” I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Warmest personal regards,
Distress Centres may be the community’s lifeline, but the B.A.D. Ride is Distress Centres’ lifeline.
